Santa Fe Springs, CA (October 3, 2023) – The Greater Los Angeles County Vector Control District (GLACVCD/ District) is thrilled to announce the rebranding of its award-winning Education program and the highly anticipated return of its mobile unit to local schools within the District. The Mosquito S.W.A.T. (Standing Water Action Team) Lab is proud to unveil its new identity as the Mosquito League. The reimagined program extends beyond the classroom, encouraging students to actively engage with their communities and promote public health.

“The Mosquito League mobile unit is a unique aspect of the Education program but has been immobile for three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” said General Manager Susanne Kluh. “During this time, District staff surveyed students and teachers to receive feedback on the new ideas for the redesign.”

The new design of the District’s 34-foot mobile unit highlights the three departments of the District: Operations, Scientific-Technical Services, and Communications, who work collaboratively year-round to protect over six million Los Angeles County residents from mosquitoes and the diseases they can transmit.

“This rebranding represents the District’s dedication to providing innovative and immersive education experiences that empower Los Angeles youth to become superheroes who take action against mosquitoes,” said Education Program Coordinator Liliana Moreno. “The activities in the curriculum are geared to educate and inspire students to apply what they learn into their everyday lives and make a difference in their community.”

The Mosquito League program uses Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (S.T.E.A.M.) and the Next
Generation Science Standards (NGSS) to offer an engaging and interactive curriculum designed to captivate young learners' curiosity. Through hands-on activities, captivating visuals, and real-life examples, third to fifth grade students will delve into the fascinating world of mosquitoes and their impact on the ecosystem.

The Mosquito League Mobile Unit will be ready to hit the road beginning Tuesday, October 3rd. For more information or to reserve the Mosquito League Education program, visit www.MosquitoLeague.org. Education does not end in the classroom, follow the Mosquito League on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube
